On Wedneday, August 28th, 2024, one in an agglomeration of villages significant for Ukraine’s defense in the norther Donetsk in the Bakhmut-Artemovsk direction fell to the Russians. Konstantynovka is fallen.
Konstantynovka is a historically one of the hard fought villages in north eastern Donetsk. Throughout the war, the village has changed hands multiple times. In the years following Russia’s seizure of Crimea, the village became the sight of a bloody contest, resulting in the death of a major.[1]
In the morning, the Ukrianian military blogger, @Deepstate_UA, reported that fighting continues in Konstantynovka. In a post, the blogger stated: “У Костянтинівці бої ще тривають. За нашою інформацією, в селі ще є наша десантура, хоча ворог тисне дуже сильно. З’явилося відео, як кацапи принесли прапор на західні околиці. Дана акція закінчилася для них не дуже приємно, але медійний ефект великий вийшов.” [2]
Given the fact that the Ukrainians have all but abandoned defense of the Donbas for the Kursk incursion, there is little reason to believe that the continued fighting in Konstantynovka is expected to stop the Russians.
Konstantynovka is a part of the agglomeration of villages with Kramatorsk and Slavyansk and is connected to the major ground line of communication in the Donbas along the T-0504 highway with Pokrovsk.
